Does installing ICQ allow others to hack your system?

Someone in my office just told me that they followed a link through ICQ and after they had clicked on the link, IE displayed their C: drive and said their computer had been hacked. I have heard of scripts in IE that display your Harddrive but would you considered as being hacked? I think this is a little game some web developer plays on their customer. 🙂 or could this be a cause of too much pr0n site browsing. 😛 Please do fill me in as to what is going on. Thanks

thats not hacking no, its just a little trick that has bene popularized. ICQ does not allow you to be hacked but it is open to exploits like every other program.

Not if you click on the link. The end-user has to understand that they are calling a program to run (and under their ID, at that). If I sent you a batch file that ran format c: /y/u and you formatted your drive after running it, would you say that you had been hacked?
