The greatest men also seem to be the greatest philanderers. Perhaps the two are inseparable. Take away the drive that causes them to chase tail and you also take away the drive to do great things...or something like that.

It does lessen his greatness as man. It doesn't change the greatness of his work.

Depends on if you feel a great man should have deception as a tool in his arsenal. If so, then no. If not, then yes.

Yes, and no, depending on whether or not the man in question cares about a stable relationship.

That doesn't really answer the question, though does it?

The question isn't about those who don't commit infidelity, but those who do.

Your logic is kind of like asking "does plagiarizing make a singer less great" and answering "yes, because plenty of great singers don't plagiarize."

That doesn't tell us anything about the greatness of the people who do cheat being affected by that action.

I think the OP quickly runs into the question to 'define greatness'. That question itself is based on some subjective things - and so the answer is pretty subjective as well.

I think John Kennedy was a great president; he was also a bad cheater.

I suspect it's more valuable to come to understand the human nature involved in why more powerful people are more likely to cheat.

What does that tell us about cheating, and about monogamy?

There's more to it than 'everyone would if they could, and powerful people just have more access'. That's not it at all IMO.

That is total bs. that's the sort of logic little boys of any age use to justify their stupid behavior.

Infidelity is women made. It's whatever that's fed to you when you're growing up, pretty much like a religion until you figure out otherwise.

We would all like to think you can be a moral person and still make it to the top, but history shows us that really isn't the case. Our society demands a certain amount of cheating, trickery, guile and backstabbing to rise above others. We outright reward it in many cases.

As for infidelity, well, I guess I respect a person a bit more if they keep it quiet than if they do it openly and publicly embarrass their spouse and family. Heck, many of the great men and women who were supposedly monogamous could have fooled around plenty and just been successful at keeping it quiet.
