Does Higher LCD Monitor Refresh Rates = Worse Video Quality?

I just purchased a Viewsonic VA902b 19inch flat screen monitor. However i seemed to notice that at it's native 1280x1024 resolution, if i set it to 85hz, the video playback quality was significantly worse than say 60hz. Does anyone know any technical information on what might cause a LCD monitor to have worse image quality at higher refresh rates on the same resolution? it might just be me, but at higher hz, it seemed to blur more. I know you dont have to worry about flicker/eye strain with LCD, but what's the ideal refresh rate for LCD's?

You gotta keep up with the times.....🙂
LCDs do no have a refresh rate the way CRT monitors do.

Check your manual and set the "refresh" rate to the recomended value
(used to be 60 or 75, yours may be diferent, I can't keep up with the times either.)

not really since the pixels are really too slow to keep up to even 60hz the bs ms numbers they like to quote..which are really special case minimums. and no lcds don't flicker so why care. go to howstuffworks.com and look up how lcds work, and u will understand.

I set mine to 75Hz. 60Hz (the default) would hurt my eyes If i was reading black text off a white page (from MS Word) for too long.

thanks for the responses. 0roo0roo said the pixels can't keep up even at 60hz, so is this blur on the video im experiencing on higher refresh rates, due to this?

Could be, if the video card is trying to change pixel colors too fast for the monitor (before a change is completed or something like that). Unless you have a super-low-response-time LCD, more than 60Hz (maybe 75Hz for a fast monitor) is completely unnecessary.

Sure they do, I've noticed actually better picture quality by increasing the refresh rate. Refresh rates still apply to LCD monitors...
No they don't. LCDs do not refresh at all, unless there are changes to the picture, and only the pixels that change are refreshed.
