Does high feedback on Paypal account constitute a person as trustworthy?

Lets say a person has 198 verified transactions and is a Premiere account holder. Does this usually gaurantee that this person is honest and trustworthy? Or can he/she still cheat you out of your money?

Well obviously given the right circumstances but we're talking about probability here 😛

Probability wise I would say you are safe. Actually I think my paypal stats are about the same as you had described above.😛

I just don't like how when I use email to inquire about a product, the seller would reply promptly. And after payment was sent and confirmed, they start lagging on the response. Makes me feel uneasy.

Yeah...generally I ship to unverified addresses if they can prove they've paid 10 verified buyers before no problem. There's still problems with hijacked accounts but I figure the chances of someone going to such great lengths to defraud me are not so great. Usually if you talk to someone internationally and they seem sketchy, tell them you want to make sure they have 20 positive feedbacks with no negatives, and also see that they've paid verified people before. If it's fraudulent, they won't respond. Almost all legit ebayers from different countries will ask you to declare the item as a gift or repair under warranty merchandise. If they ask this it shows that they care how much they're going to have to pay to get their merchandise, whereas in a fraudulent transaction they could care less.

Not neccessarily, I'd check to make sure that person has a verified account and also if you're selling, that he has a confirmed address.

First and foremost if the guy is international DO NOT sell to him or her. I would never sell to anyone international. I could not care if the person has 100 positive feedbacks. I only sell to within the US of A. I suggest you do the same.

I'm a buyer and the guy I'm talking about is a seller. I really have no way to check if he/she has any reference except by the # of completed transaction on his/her paypal account and that it is a verified premiere account. I'm about 90% sure I can trust this person but then again when I got burned for $125 back in the days, I also was sure I could trust that person. I'm a little bit more careful nowadays though 🙂

Well, considering the # of bad transactions to the ratio of good ones and the extra money earned I choose to sell international. I haven't had a chargeback in 3 years(knock on wood) and I move about 50 items a week on ebay, 1/5th of which go to international bidders. I also usually make them pay western union money order. The advantage is I can get 50 bucks more by selling to someone international. I'd only have to sell 3 or 4 things to cover 1 chargeback. It's well worth it in my opinion.

I've never considered anything PayPal has to say as reliable.

Heat and eBay feedback (depending on the forum) are all I look at.

Hi DurocShark,

Even feedback alone can't determine the possibility of a transaction going bad through any medium (hijacked account because user fell for a spoof email, received bad check,etc.). Multiple factors should be considered with a transaction...even more so with expensive items.

However, I do need to advise that certain areas are more prone to targets of fraud (electronics, jewelry,etc.).

I highly doubt that someone with 198 verified transactions will beat you out of $68.00. It is not impossible, but if it were me, I would not sweat it.

🙂

Okay this doesn't look good. The first e-mail I sent him was Tuesday asking for a tracking # because he said he will sent it out then. He did not reply but I figured it's probably New Years (eve) so I don't blame him. I sent him another e-mail last night telling him to please at least update me on the status even if he did not manage to ship out on Tuesday as promised. Still no reply today. I signed up for another e-mail account on yahoo and e-mailed him inquiring about purchasing some stuff from him. He responded withing the next 30 minutes. The e-mail he replied with seems generic so I'm not sure if he's auto-sending. So I replied with a more specific question and I will see if he responds just as quick. If he is a legit seller, I don't see why he would ignore my e-mails and reply so quickly to new inquiries.

If this takes a turn for the worst, what can I do anyways?

Okay he replied to a 2nd e-mail from a fake account I made. Yet he still has not replied to either of my two e-mails I sent this week. I'm starting to get very annoyed. What do you guys suggest I do?
