I wouldn't know.

I've only been one other avatar, and changed to the flag the day it became available.
 
I had the "crazy" (bald) avatar when I signed up, and switched it to my current one after "joining" the PHWC.
 
I linked to it once because I didn't know the whole story. You can search for Syringer as the author. Basically the jist is that there was a girl in an apt below him that asked him to come down because she had a spider in her apt and wanted him to kill it. He asked ATOT if it was really just a spider she was interested in or if she might be making excuses for him to come down. He never updated the thread....thus the Spider comment in all his threads. That is the best I can describe it, I may not be completely accurate. You can try searching for it, but essentially he started a story and never updated, that's why you see all the Spiders.
