Does HDMI cable make difference with PS3?

I own a 60 GB PS3 and Samsung LN46A550.

I am currently using the entry level 28G Monoprice HDMI cable.

Wondering if anyone can see any meaningful differences with their better HDMI cables, or those of other brands?

What's the logic behind the 24G HDMI cables?

Just for extended runs?

<3 Monoprice, I just ordered 3x 3' optical audio cables and it came in at less than 10$ shipped. Priority mail even!

What a website.

+1, I'm not sure HOW they can afford to sell that stuff so cheap, no complaints here though :)

I remember looking a few years ago for a 6 foot HDMI cable, it was something outrageous like $66 at BB, $7 at Monoprice.

HDMI is digital so no, there's basically no difference, it either works or it doesn't.

You'd have to have the cable running over 30 feet for the quality to matter (assuming you didn't buy it from a guy in a white van)

This is so far from the truth I'm surprised there are people that still believe this.

Digital is nothing more than analog interpreted to be digital. It is NOT a work or don't work thing. If there are errors only that data is corrupt and you'll see this as sparkles, flashes of color, or maybe not even notice it.

The good thing is the HDMI certification that's going on now so you know the cable is up to the job. No reason for it to be expensive, just up for what is needed.

With digital it's really obvious when there are errors. I believe HDMI also has some error correction data. You're right that it's not a case of working vs not working, but unless you're getting really obvious picture issues you can rest assured that you're getting the best picture you'll get.

There's no mystery as to how they can sell stuff so cheap - it's really simple stuff. The real mystery is why the hell someone would pay $66 for a CABLE. Not much of a mystery I guess - people are clueless and will believe whatever the equally clueless salesman tells them. Monster built their whole business on that idea. Copper is copper is copper. 24 gauge is 24 gauge is 24 gauge. People spend hundreds of dollars fixing a problem they don't have, and then they convince themselves that it looks sooooo much better, because it'd have to look better after they spent all that money.

A while back I was looking for an optical cable. I went to 4 different stores (CC, BB, P.C. Richard and Sons, and Electronics Expo), and NONE of them had any cables under $50. Best Buy had a some "cheap" cables, but no optical. Same with P.C. Richard and Sons. CC and Electronics Expo didn't have any cables of ANY type under $50. :Q Now when I order anything from Monoprice I order extras. I could buy dozens of cables that I never use from Monoprice, and I'd STILL come out ahead if I am able to use one of them instead of being forced to buy locally. I have a 4x8 ft piece of pegboard in my basement that houses all of the cables I've accumulated over the years.

I was sleepy when I saw this thread title and it was above another thread so I read them both kinda as "Does $28 million HDMI cable make difference with PS3?" XD

This. I have a 24 awg HDMI cable for my PS3. Very good quality.

You spent unnecessary money if that cable run is under 12 feet or so, Baked.

They're good cables for their price. I wouldn't call them top quality. They're still Chinese cables with molded connectors.

Yeah, I realized that after I got them. They're so damn thick it made it difficult for me to position the cable behind the PS3. 28 awg is perfectly fine for almost everything.

Word. Thicker monoprice cables might be useful for longer runs, but that's really it.
