Does Getting a GED look bad instead of a HS diploma?

Just wondering cause I'm thinking of getting a GED cause I'm dying of boredom in school. Only thing really holding me here is my required 4th year of English.

I don't see why, since it's the equivalent. If you're going to apply to college, you'd probably want to mention it in any kind of personal statement. Though I imagine any top tier schools may be out of the question.

If I was hiring, I'd most certainly choose the HS graduate over a drop-out with a GED. Just finish it up...its not that bad.

Everyone will have there own opinion. So the choice is yours.

How far along are you in HS? If you're close to graduating, I wouldn't drop out and get a GED. You've survived this long.

Depends whether or not you've dropped out first.
If you get your GED when you're 15 it looks good. If you get it when you're 21, it looks bad.

GED = Good Enough Diploma

The sad fact of the US education system is, a fairly large precentage of highschool grads can not pass the GED test.

In all likelyhood, you would have to go to a CC and then transefer after completing all you core requirments.

Once you have a certain number of college credit hours it doesnt matter if you got a GED. If you complete 48 credit hours(more or less depending on college) you shouldnt have a problem getting into most state colleges, as well as some private ones.

Doubtful. If you dont complete high school, more often than not, you have to go to a CC for a year or two. Very rarely will a 4 year school will admit someone without complete 4 years of school.

you should've just doubled up on english courses this year, to get that req out of the way, and you could've graduated early..

but i'm sure your sob story would go real well as part of your "the reason why i have a ged: i was bored out of my mind in school, so i just quit" now give me a reason why you shouldn't get into berkley

If you have a 4.0, just stick it out, or you'll have to explain it to every college you apply to.

If your classes arent challenging, you're not doing yourself a favor by staying in them. If your classes are TOO challenging, you're trying too hard and will burn yourself out. The idea is to take the middle road, and excel at it.

If you want to make school more interesting, try taking up some extracurricular activities or something.

Even the Army treats the GED as inferior. Some MOS positions will not be available to enlistees who have GEDs vs. diplomas.

yea, I had classes with upperclassmen for the past 2 years and watching them go on made me anxious to go. i guess you could say i had senioritis since 10th grade. Maybe I don't have a good reason to get into berkeley, but thats why i threw out this question cause if i could have all the fun and still get into a good UC, why the heck not?
