Does GA-8IHXP support Prescott?

The official list of supported CPUs does not include Prescott, but since the 3.06GHz HT Northwood is supported, I can't see why a Prescott would not be. Am I missing a difference between Northwood and Prescott that would not allow a Prescott CPU to work with this motherboad?

Thank you in advance

Yes. Voltage, mainly. Power management and cache are other differences.

You will be much better geting a cheap ECS or ASRock i865 mobo and upgrading to a lesser processor. You can even consider i915G, to jump to the skt775 wagon without much investing.

Ah fair enough. Thank you for your suggestion, however I also have RDRAM rather than DDR so appart for a cheap motherboard I would also need memory.

I think I'll just try to get a faster Northwood on ebay as I currently only have a P4 1.6GHz @ 2.2GHz.

find a 3.06 northwood and buy it, they generally overclock to around 3.45-3.6ghz using the factory heatsink and are slighty faster than prescotts running at the same speed, I have one running at 3.45ghz and it easily eats up my friends 3.6ghz prescott in most benchmarks and games.

Yes I will do that if I can find one for a reasonable price. I don't want to spend to much on this and the prices of Northwoods are higher than you would have thought, probably due to the limited supply. Hopefully I will find one on eBay (UK though, not US).
