Does fruit get any better than fresh cut pineapple?

If you people have never had pineapple from the Dole plantation on Oahu, then you haven't had pineapple.

You can't be serious... I live in Chicago and I can get either of those (along with far more exotic things) at my local produce market. Heck, if you can't find mango at your local supermarket, then you must not know what a mango looks like.

I don't think I've ever seen mango in the produce section of the nearby Shaw's. I have to go down to the Chinatown supermarkets in Boston to get a good selection of exotic fruits.

Wow, I gotta pay $3 to $5 depending on where I get them and if they are on sale or not. And they're usually on the small side and who knows how fresh they are.

Yeah, the Philippines have delicious mangos. Seriously, I really didn't like them when I had them in the states, just because they weren't fresh and a different type. But the ones over there, man, they're so delicous.

IMO, Maui Gold is the best pineapple you can get. Lower in acid than most other pineapples, sweeter...mm-mmm-mm-mmmmmmm!
I eat (on average) 2 fresh pineapples per week. Chunked up by itself, mixed in a fruit salad, grilled, baked...I LOVE hawaiian papayas. I eat several of those each time we're in the islands. Don't like what they sell here as Mexican Papayas. Different taste completely. Mangos...good flavor, but not a favorite.

I love fresh & RIPE pineapple. It's hard to find ripe pineapples in the states. Dole has a variety that are usually pretty close.

Ripe mango is pretty darn close to beating pineapple.

Papaya = NASTY.

Yep - frsh pineapple is great! Try it with some lime juice squeezed over it - even better.

In general, selecting a smaller pineapple is better. The smaller fruits will have around the same amount of juice, but collected in a smaller area. That means an overall juicier, sweeter fruit.

Actually, you can replant the crown of your pineapple and the fruit of that will be smaller than the original pineapple. You can keep doing this, with each successive pineapple being smaller and juicier than the last.

Oh, and you can tell the freshness by looking at the cut on the bottom. Fresh, moist cut = fresh pineapple, black/shrunken/moldy cut = old pineapple.

Cut the pinapple crown, leaving about 1" of fruit on the base and let it dry out for about a day. Bury the fruit part in potting soil, place in the sunniest window of your house. Make sure to mist the leaves a lot in the beginning, because it does not have a root structure to get the water from the soil.

If it is established in the pot but not flowering, take an over-ripe banana and sit it next to the plant for about a week. Take it away, and it should flower about 2 months after that (fruit will follow shortly after).

Who says youre the only watermelon lover here? They are good, but usually they are not very sweet at the store. But when you find a ripe, SWEET one it is so good!
