Does FREESCO require a hub in order to function?

Bear with me..I am new to this.
Version .027 supports three NIC's. From my understanding that means one card will be connected to my cable modem.

Now I want to conncet my computer and my brothers computer to the FREESCO box.

Do we plug into the two remaining NIC's?

Linuxnewbie.org (http://linuxnewbie.org/nhf/othernix/freesco_router.html) states that the minimum system requirements as a 4 port hub.

I thought the whole purpose of FREESCO was to act as a poor mans router so we didn't need to go out and spend more to buy a hub, router, or switch if our needs are just a simple home network?

maybe it'll work without a hub but you'll need crossover cables if you're going to plug the machines directly to freesco router NIC's.

Just connect each comp using a crossover cable to each available NIC. No hub is required. However Freesco isn't perfect and is limited to a total of 3 nics.

I have been using freesco for 3 weeks now. Never a problem, but it can be confusing. I set mine up on the hdd rather than the floppy.

i have a thread on this particular forum (networking) that has a lot of answers to questions asked. Just search for freesco in networking forum.
