the final fantasy series has been trending this way for a long time. if FFXI is an MMORPG then it can't be all scenes.

i watched my friend play it for like an hour one time, he just ran around and fought the same monsters over and over.. and it wasnt cool real time fighting action. turn based crap bores me.

hit the monster..
the monster hits u..
hit the monster...
the monster hits u..

10 minutes later finally one of u is dead and u run around to the next one

FF7 was the last one that I really played through...I got FF8 from a friend but I just stopped playing because I had too much school work and I just never got back into it...Same thing happened w/ MGS2. I got it and then put it down for finals week, and then I couldn't get back into it and I still cant :(

I loved FF7 though :D

Well I sat through the entire game. It does get better and more interesting than what you've seen so far but you are right 90% of the game is just story. Ok maybe not exactly 90% but essentially this game is an interactive story with heavy emphasis on the story.

I enjoyed it for the most part but I definitely can see why you're getting damn bored with it. Give me a game like baldurs gate any day :) The problem with FF is that their target audience is, I think, fairly young.

I was a massive way through MGS2 and I had to drop it for a month or so and I tried playing it last week and it was just impossible to get back into so I doubt I'll ever play MGS2 again. That's the prob when you take a break from a game - you just stop caring!

Exactly, I tried to start over, pick up from my save game, all blah! Plus all the annoying codec conversations don't help :D

Last game that I played all the way through was half-life. I have yet to something equally as enthralling.

Not everyone likes the RPG genre. I presonally loved the game. I was a bit upset that the beginning had so many scenes though. Don't worry, the game has a lot of scenes, but once you get into the game they are less frequent.

How are the graphics in the scenes? Also, does it require a high-end 3D card? Or are they pre-rendered?

Pre rendered. Like any Squaresoft cutscenes, they are beautiful.

Well, in general RPG's are basically mostly story-based. The cool part about FFX IMO is the battle system. You can switch people in and out, and depending on who is in, you have different abilities in relation to the enemies. However, the battle system does get annoying towards the end of the game, especially when you know you can beat every enemy with minimal effort and you get into a fight about every 5 steps.

Also, it has the cool minigame blitzball that is just totally awesome! I must've spent at least 30 hours playing blitzball alone. Better yet, when you start a new game, the blitzball league evolves differently. Thus, it's a whole new sub-game each time!

Anyway, I'd equate FFX to Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within except that you get to play as the characters, it lasts longer, and the story is a hell of a lot better. Also the music is top-notch for an RPG (they don't recycle the tracks for each area, so you don't get tired of the music).

Although FFVI (III for the SNES) is still the all time best, FFX is probably the 2nd best.

ffx was great. after the story is over you got blitzball and the monster arena, and the rest of the secret stuff. i havent played in months but hwen i stopped i was 108 hours (or so) into it with everythign done (monster arena, ultimate weapons). good good stuff.

FF7 and Chrono Trigger were my favorites. I especially loved the music from CT. Hell, i'm listening to CT music as I type :)

X was pretty cool. I'd say it's closer to 70% movies once you get into it. Lot's more action later. I stopped playing it when Dungeon Siege came out, but I'm gettin kinda bored with that already so I'll go back and finish X. 3 was really awesome though. hehe
