Does Far Cry have a "manual anytime save" yet?

Correct, now bind that to a key, and you have a quick save

Thanks for replying.

So no "official" anytime save in the patch. :p

From what i understand, the "console save" is more of a "cheat" that doesn't always save 'correctly'.

?

Yes . . . . No

inother words . . . . it works?!

From what i read (a few months ago), the cheat-save doesn't always save correctly - sometimes you will get a completely different response/situation (i.e. the AI is not saved accurately).

A game withOUT an manual anytime save is a deal-breaker for me
(i'm lazy) :p

IF it does work correctly, i want to get FC (even though the demo does NOT impress me - perhaps it was because i was running a DX8 card - Radeon 8500 - at the time - my 9800xt will provide all the DX9 goodies).

Far Cry is an excellent game.

You can save as you know by now. But, the save is not a complete save!

By that I mean that if you load what you have saved, some things will be different than when you saved it!

For example, if water is flowing in and filling up something, and you save, after you load, there will be no water stored. The water level will start from 0.
Another example is that if there are bodu armors on the ground around you and you save and later you load it, there will be no body armors!
Same goes with any weapons on the ground.

But, it is still better than no save at all.

The game is very fun to play.

That is exactly what i was asking for . . . . THANK-YOU!!!

Last question
(on this subject, i promise):

Does this "incomplete save" detract (significantly) from gameplay?

(i really want this game . . . . but can wait for FC2) :D

You must have seen how far apart checkpoints are if you have played the two demos.
I found those acceptable. There are parts in Halo that I found frustrating. Not Far Cry.
I don't mean that it is very easy to beat. But, the time/space distance between two consecutive checkpoints is reasonable.

If you decide to use the manual save, you can save at the right times, knowing the limitations.

If you make manual saves, the game will still be enjoyable.
Mind you, I did not the first time I played it since I did not know about it.

Thanks!

i have very little patience anymore . . . . it's been a long time since my LAST console - the Sega Genesis. :p

Since FC is in (almost) bargain bin, i will give it a go . . . . :)

If you just want to go through the game and enjoy it, I would recommend playing on easy level the first time. I had great time the first time I played it on easy. Now I'm going through it again (since I have a 6800GT this time around hehe) and I'm playing at normal level. The only differences are the better graphics with the new video card, and lots of checkpoint loading (which gets to be rather frustrating). Though now I will try out the manual save, thanks for the info :)

Well if I didn't make it clear, the only difference between difficulty levels is that as the difficult gets higher, you take more damage from hits and I think AI may be more accurate at shooting. Thats about it..

maybe on super-easy for me :D
(there is 1 easier then 'easy', i think) ;)

Glad this 'save' info could help someone else . .. . and i upgraded this year from a Radeon 8500 to a 9800xt, so it still should be nice at my res - 10x7 or 11x8.

i don't want to work too hard after Max Payne ii, Thief iii, DeuSex II, Doom iii, HL2, etc. :p

it's been a pretty good run of FPSes this year, afterall :)

:D

Thanks for all your help . . . soon as it hits the bargain bin i am all over it. :)

EDITED.

\save_game can be bound to a key and most of its bugs have been fixed in version 1.3. Weapons and armour for example do stay after loading.

Text, quick & easy edit to enable quicksave/quickload. This saving method didn't detract from gameplay for me, though there was a point or two where I had mistakenly saved while a script was running and ended up having to load from the previous save if I died. Far Cry is my favorite FPS, imo it makes Doom3, a good game, look flat-out bad... and HL2 very lackluster, both in gameplay and graphics.

As an aside, how is patch 1.3? Iirc, 1.2 was so buggy it was actually recalled. I'm currently using 1.1, but I believe 1.2 & up have an increase in run speed, something I'd really like...

I thought it was great with the checkpoint saving, I only used the quicksave at the very last stage.

i USED to view the challenge as equal importanvt to viewing the results . .. now i just want to see the end (and if i LOVE the game, i get good at it and replay it - a very FEW games) . . . . i have been gaming since Pong and i am tired of the "nintendo" mentality (platform crap - repeat over-and-over till it's perfect) and simply don't have the time to enjoy a game on "hard" or "realistic" anymore. :p

Anyway, thanks for all your suggestions . . . . soon as it hits the Bargain Bin (after waitin THIS long, i can wait a bit longer) i am on it. :)

I found the demo "buggy" compared to the real game. The real deal ran a lot better/smoother for me. I was able to crank up the settings on the real game moreso than I was on the demo. When you get it, set "environment" to ultra-high (or whatever the highest setting is) that way the fish & birds will appear. they look pretty cool and are good for target practice.

I found the physics in this game a lot of fun too. Best in any game I played so far (haven't played HL2 yet)

Mahalo!

For me it saved often enough to complete the game without beeing annoyingly difficult more than three times (the last time I used the save from console).

What I liked was some of the areas you needed to replay was really cool. Atleast if you like to use a sniper riffle ;)

Most of the diffcult areas are out in the jungle so you have lots of different options on how to attack your target, which makes it fun even though you need replay it some times. You can try different tactics to see what works best.

I used console save for the whole game and did it many many times (I played through on realistic). I never had a problem except for once somehow it saved and I was stuck in the ceiling of a room.
