or do you think that it's better to go by tradition like we did (along with British)? What do you think the ups and downs of each are?

I think every generation would be better off with a new revolution (although there is no guarantee that we wouldn't have turned out like France). One thing I don't like about the Constitution is the fact that I'm bound by it even though I didn't sign it

Anyway, I think John Marshall probably did more to prevent a second American revolution than any other individual except for Lincoln.

Not a physical revolution, but certainly "the man" of whatever era needs to be scrutinized and rejected if needed. The old left would say "question authority". I agree.

Right, I was more so thinking a new Constitution or at least having an Amendment convention every 19 years.

The problem with tearing up a Constitution is that all the laws on which it's based are rendered invalid or at least subject to considerable reinterpretation. Given the litigious nature of our society suing would be our main economic stimulus.

My personal bias is that the individual is not to be disregarded in favor of the collective. There are times when the whole wins to have a functional society, but it should be at need, not convenience, a trend I believe exists. Compulsory change in that light might lead to less freedoms "for the greater good" or "safety and security". Caveat Emptor.

True, but I see his point.

Constitutional reform is almost unheard of at this point, and that's not just an American problem. We are all living with our Grandparents' constitutions.

Nope.

The Supreme Court acts as a "safety valve" within our Constitutional framework and there are plenty of institutional methods to change the political order. Revolutions are not needed, but they remain an option in the most dire of circumstances.

There never has not been the need for revolution and progression in terms of human rights issues and- everything, in general. We need more people questioning Capitalism and the Conservative government, and more to the point of what I mean to say, is that education needs to be the base of revolution. Civics is a half credit and it ought to be a full- my class doesn't know what a guillotine is and who Che Guevara was-

Obviously my views are largely around the fact that I am still in high school, but in my opinion I would rather the way we are as a global community worsen than stay the way that it is. I hate how unimaginative people can be when it comes to elections and how uninformed my generation is. Something has to change. Nothing is ever the best it can be- so totally. A stagnant government might as well not be one at all.

(please bash my opinions. I welcome it ^u^)

There is no issue with the constitution, it guarantees freedoms. It doesn't restrict the individual.

We've had our revolution for this generation. Sadly, it was lead by self entitled Hipsters. They've made it acceptable to be entitled, elitist about the most mundane things, and worthless in society. Oh I know it is so cool to post on Reddit with your MacBook Air and get a PHD in Medieval Dining Techniques, but once you get off your parent's dime you are nothing but a worthless, "educated" prick who thinks shopping at Whole Foods makes you better than those who shop at WalMart. You protest tuition being raised when you're not the ones paying it, you illegally occupy private property and when asked to leave by police officers you threaten them in a mob. You then refuse to let them leave and get pepper sprayed as a result. How does society reward you? Giving you all $30,000... I wish I had been a police officer there. As soon as you threatened and held me captive, I'd have shot your ass.

Sorry, I hate the current college generation. =(

I prefer gradual evolution, this has been the recipe for success of my country.
We change the constitution multiple times a year to allow for this.
If something is left unchanged, it's because the majority likes it how it is, otherwise finding the 100k signatures and the volunteers to do it is doable.

Redoing the constitution every 19 years is chaotic and creates huge adaptation costs, like if you have adapt lots of laws.
Gradual change costs less money and doesn't make anyone fear for their money or job or way of life because they can see the change coming and can adapt.
Plus not everyone can participate at the convention. Popular initiative and voting is better.

interesting, only communists with long hair and trashy clothes do this here.
People who spend lots of dad money etc. generally aren't left wing since they know it's bad for their money.

You're lucky then. These aren't exactly rich kids as much as middle class white kids who feel entitled and are increasingly judgmental and elitist about the most trivial things. They preach hate for "corporate" things and text on their iPhone with their Starbucks coffee.
