So we got a free HD-DVR w/ our new comcast contract, and this is the first time we've had real digital HD cable. Well every once in a while the signal will cut for a second, and the screen will show a bunch of small squares while it catches up. That alright every once in a while, but ESPN-HD in particular is damn near impossible to watch because of this. It happens every 30 seconds or so. Is it this bad for anybody else?

I have that problem maybe once every 3 or 4 months- usually no problem at all with it.

Nope. That is the receiver not picking up the digital signal properly, most likely due to poor signal strength at your place. Call Comcast.

Check your cabling - make sure you aren't splitting the signal too much - once or none is ideal. I had a similar problem (different channel) - the splitters were degrading the signal enough that channels that had a weak signal as it is were getting cut off completely.

I have that problem with TNT, which made watching the NBA Finals lots of fun this year. But no, ESPN works great.
