does E1405 work well as a student laptop?

topic says it all. From what I read the battery lasts 3 hrs on average. I think that's about average? The laptop isn't for me. My assumption that 12" is too small to type, and 15" is too heavy to lug around. E1405 can be had sub $700 so it's definitely budget conscious. Main purpose is for in class note taking.

My dorm neighbor has an XPS M140 (the single core precursor to the e1405) and he loves it. I agree, I have yet to see a 12" laptop with a truly full size keyboard, and most 15" laptops are going to weigh over 6lb.

It's a shame it has a wide-aspect screen (IIRC). Other than that it's okay for a cheapo student laptop. The battery life isn't a killer-- he/she can just carry a power adapter if necessary in the same bag. It seems like a good deal!

I used to think 12" laptops were too smaller to type on, but I've changed my thinking. I actually think the widescreen aspect would make more sense in a 12" than 14" form factor, because it would enable a little bigger keyboard. I've now used a Thinkpad X60 and an older 12" Inspiron 300m, and was able to type fast on both. I'm an ex-bass player with large hands, too. That said, I prefer a full-size keyboard for sure.
