Does DX11 Improve Win7 GUI Performance ?

I am not gaming. I will be moving to Windows 7 64-bit from WinXP Pro SP2.

Current System:
Intel P965 chipset
CPU: Conroe 2.12Ghz (E6420) overclocked to 3.1Ghz
RAM: 4GB DDR800
GPU: nVidia 9600GT 512MB (256-bit)

If I am doing just Windows stuff, does a new DX11 card benefit me in any way (i.e. with the speed of Aero or anything else)? If so, how much?

Thanks,
CxP

I went from a 275 GTX to an HD5850 and I haven't noticed any difference in Windows 7 performance. Benchmarks might say otherwise, just from the "naked eye" approach, nothing from me. I do load from an SSD though, so everything is quick and snappy, which might be one of the reasons I don't notice performance lag as much.

I would say that unless something you're doing demands more graphics power than what you've got, you're better off. And if it does and you can spare some time, wait until Fermi is release in about a month. It could push ATI prices down some.

Pretty much any video card released in the last 3 years will handle Win7 GUI just fine. I believe it's build on DX9.0, so a DX10 or 11 card won't be any better (unless the card is just plain faster to begin with), but even a $35.00 video card will handle the GUI just fine.

I have a 4350 ATI ($35) in a vista aero media center box and it handles the UI just like my DX11 card (the one in my sig)...
