Does DVI matter with CRT?

DVI does not improve image quality on CRTs, and does not have nearly as much bandwidth as a standard HD15 cable. I believe there are a few CRTs with DVI, but it makes no difference.

I don't think so, as a CRT uses an analog signal, as opposed to an LCD which uses a digital. Having a CRT with a DVI would be like having an LCD with an analog port (yes, I know some do, but it's not optimal).

Actually some of the high end NEC crts do use dvi inputs. It doesnt improve image quality because it is the same signal that you would get with a regular HD15 cable. With the dvi inputs you just dont use any of the digital part of the dvi. Anandtech did an explination on this a while ago.

This is the link hope this explains things.

I have a NEC FP955 CRT and it has a DVI-A port plus the D-sub. I am using the DVI-A as the cable connects from that to the D-Sub on the video card. Hard to say if there is a difference... probably not.

Actually it should theoretically have a better picuter w/ DVI, but I surely think you'd be hard pressed to really notice a difference. The signal is always going to start out digital in the computer. On a regular D-sub connect the digital signal is converted to analog on the video card and then sent to the monitor. Using a DVI connector to go to the monitor simply makes the digital to analog converstion happen at the monitor instead of the video card. Not much real difference, but the use of the DVI cable does eliminate the change of signal degradation and interference which happens when analog data is sent across a cable. As I said though I doubt you'd notice it.
