Does dropping a class appear/look bad on your transcripts?

Is it something that may effect your graduation process, considering you finish the course at another time? I started a new job, and have been bombing in calculus, im just gonna work/relax this summer and cut my work hours when school starts again.

I think it depends on when you drop the class. I think if you drop it within first semester you'll be ok, but you gotta stay if you're in second semester. I may be wrong though.

Depends on how far into it you are.

If it's a straight drop before the drop deadline, then it won't even show up on your transcript.

If it's a drop after the drop deadline but before the withdrawal deadline, then you'll just get a "W" or equivalent on your transcript.

If it's a drop after the witdrawal deadline, you'll get an F (bad of course).

Check with your department to see how far into the semester you are.

VeggieFrog once told me that dropping a class after starting it made her look bad, but not so bad if it was within the first few days.

EDIT
Silverpig: If it's a drop after the drop deadline but before the withdrawal deadline, then you'll just get a "W" or equivalent on your transcript.

that is what she told me... thanks silverpig.

thanks, that souds about right, what im wondering though, what exactly does a W mean and how do employer's or Universities view it?

depends on school policy. some schools let you drop courses without any penalty a few weeks into the semester. after that you will have an ugly "dropped" record on your permanent transcript. some schools, if you retake a class the prior record is overwritten.

consult your school bulletin

I would say yes, unless you re-take the class later.

I did and received an "E". Retook the class and replaced "E" with an "A".

thanks i'll ask about that, and i will be retaking the class later as well.

OK people, 99% of jobs won't dissect your transcript. Half don't even care about your GPA, they just care that you graduated.

I'd say that if you drop a difficult, crucial-to-your-major class more than once (first week or two doesn't count), then you might have reason to be a little worried. Other than that, forget it.

Bingo.

I've dropped many, many classes. My completion rate was like 23% last year lol. I plan on getting my act together this year though (my 4th year and I'm switching my major again, I'm just not sure to what).

Employers rarley pay attention to withdrawals on transcripts unless they are excessive. I have sat on many search committees and I spend maybe 30 secs looking at the transcript. I can not remember a time we talked about how someone dropped a lot of classes in college.
