Does Dragon Age Inquisition get better?

I was a pretty big fan of Dragon age 2, and Inquisition seemed good with frostbite engine, but so far I'm finding it really boring. Like, it doesn't have the visceral feeling of Dragon age 2, all of the little touches, but feels kinda like dungeon siege. Is the game any good?

Fwiw, I liked DA2 more than DA1. DA1 also bored me to tears.

DA:I takes a little while to really get going. If you are still in the beginning area and have leveled up a bit, go to the next area. It starts to get better once you start visiting other areas.

I liked the game, but it wasn't something I have felt the need to revisit. I think I have played DA1 four or five times to completion. I got bored with DA2 about 25 hours in or so and abandoned it.

I still haven't completed DA:I. Played DA:O like 5-6 times.

At least I was able to complete DA2 since it was somewhat story focused. DAI feels like shiny Skyrim with snails pace progression, and the plot is terrible and the characters forgettable. Also the map system seems to be a mess, and it seems better played on a controller.

I dont know if it necessarily gets "better". You unlock more quests and companions, but what you see is pretty much what you get. Personally, I kept waiting for something to happen that would really draw me into the game, but it never did. The game looks great and plays well, but it just seems like something is missing.

Origins was awesome, I didn't even finish Inquisition either. I got really bored of it with all the horrible side quests.

If you liked DA2, you should like DA:I. It does get better, just don't get too hung up on completing every quest possible in the first sandbox zone. They added Skyrim elements to the game to give people countless hours they can play, but it's not necessary to do so.

Well, it is different. I'm getting the hang of the game.

I definitely enjoyed combat in DA2 much more than this one. DA2 also had a better story IMO and characterizations. Its combat was more visceral and tactical with lots of pauses needed.

This game is much more about exploration, so tough combat isn't really a draw. It seems like this one also is better to play as a ranged class than melee because of the various environmental obstacles,

Best thing is you can completely disable the HUD.

I never could get into Skyrim because it was too lonely and clunky IMO. I like the companion system in the dragon age games.

I wish that games like this had better combat, like the mount and blade combat.

But yeah, Inquisition has crap combat so far, melee classes look like they're no fun to play.

Combat does get a lot tougher than you think, and melee does have a big role in it. Although I played on hard and nightmare difficulties. Normal can be a cake walk. The combo moves are similar to DA2 as well.

Your warrior(s) are used to crowd control with knockdowns, charge, taunts and stuns. The melee rogues are the highest damage dealers, at least at higher levels. The combat style is definitely more like DA2 than DA, but on normal, it may be too easy to force you into micromanagement.

DAO was awesome and just perfect in so many areas. Like others above, I've replayed it half a dozen times but didn't finish DAI once (out of boredom). I think the problem with DAI is "tickbox development". Someone wanted +100-120hrs of gameplay as a sales point regardless of how it screws up main plot pacing, and the end result is it plays more like a single player MMO stuffed with obvious filler. A LOT of empty filler. One day, EA will learn "sidequest quantity" does not = quality. Personally, I think 50-70hrs is the sweet spot. It's simply impossible to 100% hold someone's attention for +100hrs solid unless it's a super moddable game (Elder Scrolls, etc). The dumbing down didn't help either. Post EA-acquisition Bioware really ain't what they used to be. 🙁

I think it is pretty boring, I think Dungeon Siege is a really good comparison because the characters basically play by themselves. You just have to walk them around and let them blow stuff up. Everything died in seconds. I much preferred Origins because there were some really tough battles and I had to micro manage stuff.

To me what they are doing with the series makes no sense. They started with it being like a tactical party based RPG and they dumbed it down game after game to the point where it is just an action RPG now. If they are going to make an action RPG, why not just make it single character and more action packed like Witcher or Skyrim. They can't have it both ways. If I want tactical combat I have to stick with Divinity, Pillars, Blackguards, etc. If I want action I play Witcher 3 or Arkham or something. Dragon Age now sits somewhere in between and doesn't satisfy me with either type of gameplay.

I know all of that, but melee in DA2 was really great due to all of the small touches to the game. It feels slower paced in DAI and not as fun. DA2 was also much more tactical IMO.

What level is your character at?

The main issue with DA:I is the UI. It's still tactical, especially with the dragon fights.

Yeah it does, depending on what character you're playing can determine alot. I honestly think the rogue is exciting and fun to play because they have alot of stealth and damage abilities. Takes alittle while to get going though so keep that in mind, gotta grind before you can start really enjoying it.

Maybe like level 3. There are no healing spells, right? And no channelled abilities taking up x% of mana. Combat in DA2 was pretty good, lots of shouting by characters, felt very fast and vicious. DAI has more environmental obstacles, but combat also feels slower more like DA1.

So there are fewer clutch heals, and closing ground with you character takes forever. They fixed the closing ground problem in DA2, but it is back now here, with the move to a new game engine and I presume a different developer.

I am one of the people who liked DA2 much more than DA1.

It's a walking simulator. Lots of empty space with little to do.

At level 3, you have a long way to go before you can make many judgments. Give it a little time. I can't say you'll like it, but level 3 is just scratching the surface.

You get a good feel for DA2 combat early on. I think my negative impression will continue. At this point I'll prob finish it just to know the next chapter after DA2. But it probably would have been better for me to just buy the DA2 xpacks at full price...

I'd say you start to get a decent "feel" for combat in DA:I at level 6 and at level 12-15 is when it fully kicks into gear. I didn't think DA2 combat was worth anything until a few levels in either.

The UI, however, is pretty difficult to get used to.

I completely turn the UI off in this game. I don't even know how much HP I have.

Yes, it does look like higher up you could get some very technical tanking going on.

There seems to be a noticeable lack of banter in inquisition compared to past games.

I kind of regret getting it for PS4. It starts at 30fps which means when it dips it falls to the low 20's and stutters. I only have a 7770 gpu however on account of holding out for polaris so I opted not to get the PC version.

After having turned on the more advanced shaders, I think it looks a little better on medium.

Yeah, combat still sucks. Worse, there is like no personality in the game. DA2 was filled to the brim with personality, and DA😱 had lots of conversation too. DAI hardly has any.

Ill probably just pay full price for the DA2 DLC and do another play through sometime.

There is banter, quite a bit actually. I'm not sure if it is as much as DA:O, but it might not start right away. You need to pick up certain characters before you hear a lot of it.
