Does disabling QoS speed up my internet?

It depends on what kind of traffic you had going through the device and how you had qos setup. If your traffic was that being marked the lowest priority and there was a lot of other traffic with higher priority, then yes you would probably see an improvement in YOUR traffic. . . it could be the other way around, if your traffic was high priority and then you disabled qos, then you'd likely see a degradation of service. . .

This is all too technical I guess. I haven't touched anything regarding QoS to be honest I just have my Linksys E4200 Router hooked up to my Fibre Optic modem provided by my ISP and my Laptop and wife's iPad and couple of phones are connected to the router.

Now there are 2 questions in mind:

1) Shall I disable it from the router itself (if there was such an option I have to look)
2) Shall I simply untick the QoS box in the WLAN properties?

** regarding the 2nd question, is disabling QoS in Windows 7 as simple as unticking that QoS box in the connection properties?

The tweak all of the websites wrote about disabling QoS in windows settings was useless. It doesn't do anything. I would leave it at the default.

Disabling QoS in your router depends. If you have a 2Mbit upload connection, but your QoS settings are setup wrong and say 1Mbit, the router will limit your connection 1Mbit. Best to check if the values are correct. If the values are setup correctly, then there should be no performance loss.

Here is a good example of router QoS setup wrong or not at all. Look at the upload speed test in the OP and later in the thread after changing it

Try a speedtest and see if it matches your connection.

Under normal configuration iy does not matter one way or the other.

Shall I disable it from the router itself (if there was such an option I have to look)?

If it is not configured to do anything it does not matter if it is On or Off.

I have the e4200 v2 and I use QoS for my VOIP phones and Netflex streaming to the TV's, high setting for them. If you don't need it then just set it as disabled.
