http://www.directv.com/DTVAPP/imagine/HDTV_package.jsp - Selection seems kinda thin, especially for $11/month extra... My parents currently have DirecTV, and was going to recommend they upgrade their box to coincide w/ their HDTV, but they have to offer more than 6 HD channels, don't they?

I have HD service w/ Brighthouse Networks and for only an extra $6/month i get the following;

540 - Sunshine HD
700 - HBO HD
701 - Showtime HD
604 - WEDU DT Florida Knowledge Network
605 - WEDU PBS HD/The Florida Channel
607 - WFLA Weather Radar Now
608 - WFLA NBC HD
610 - WTSP CBS HD
613 - WTVT FOX HD
616 - WUSF PBS DT
617 - WUSF Annenberg/CPB
618 - WUSF PBS DT University
619 - WUSF DT - Florida Knowledge Network
628 - WFTS ABC HD
632 - WMOR DT
690 - Discovery HD Theater
691 - TNT HD
703 - INHD
704 - INHD2
705 - HDNet
706 - HDNet Movies
707 - ESPN HD
750 - HD Movies On Demand

Is there something w/ the DirecTV that im not seeing?

I could have sworn that DirecTV offers some adult channels in HD

Although that is the worst idea I have EVER heard of.

Don't think my parents would be interested in those (at least i hope not, or don't want to think about it), but hell HD is HD 😀

Yay another Tampon 😉
604, 607, 617, and 632 aren't HD though, they're only 480p.

DirecTV is in the process of getting HDTV feeds of the local channels they provide for as many stations as possible. Their goal is to have at least 90% of the HD-broadcasting locals in HD on their satellites by next year. As far as I know Dish Network isn't anywhere near getting locals in HD.

Unfortunately there's not much available in HD anywhere at the moment. Except for locals in HD you aren't missing much.

You could always try Dish Network. They currently have ESPN, Discovery, TNT, HDNet, HDNet Movies, HBO, Showtime, and 10 Voom channels.

Also from what I have heard Dish Network plans to add 5 more Voom channels after the first of the year, and they are going to slowly start rolling out some HD locals.

Sucks that Directv doesn't have the amount of HD that cable has, but i'm happy with it.
I don't think any cable network has as many HD channels as the OP listed.

I have TWC and don't have anywhere near that many.

I don't think Comcast has that many either.
