Does digital cable modems suffer slowdowns like analogue cable modems?

Essentially, I would like to know if a digital cable modem is better to have than an analogue cable modem when it comes to the "shared" UL/DL w/ the neighbors. Thanks for your time 🙂

It does not matter what Cable Modem you use, since they are all capable to deliver higher bandwidth then what is available.

If there is slow down it comes from loaded network, not from the Modem.

theres no such thing as a digital verse analog cable modem, there all digital. theres digital and analog cable though, digital signal is under a MPEG-2 compression.

I have a question on the digital TV signals..here we can get channels 2-99 on any TV, and 100-whatever only with the digital cable box. Now when I'm watching channel 5 on the digital box, is it using the exact same signal as a regular TV would for channel 5? Or are there actually two channel 5s coming in, one for a regular TV, and one for a digital box? I believe it's only one signal, but I wanted to make sure.

Thanks for the reply JackMDS & MoMeanMugs, I appreciate the input. DarkManX, the reason I asked this question is because just this past week, my apt. building was upgraded to digital cable and they [the cable co] had to enter my apartment to swap my old cable modem for a new one. This new modem/service seems almost a 1/3 faster. Again, thanks for all the replies 🙂

In general, there will be only one "channel 5" signal on the cable line -- and it'll be analog. Thus, with your digital cable box you' re only getting the upper channels (usually above 100) as digital, and the rest are still analog.

The services in NYC are changing to Digital Cable. It is not the Modem that makes the Internet service faster. At the moment only handful of subscriber are transferred to Digital, as a result the load on the Digital system is low, and more bandwidth is available.

Thanks for the info JackMDS, guess as more people are transfered, my speed will diminish 🙁
