Is Aspartame Safe? (FDA):
To date, FDA has not determined any consistent pattern of symptoms that can be attributed to the use of aspartame, nor is the agency aware of any recent studies that clearly show safety problems.
Study Reaffirms Safety of Aspartame (MIT News):
Even daily large doses of the high-intensity sweetener aspartame, also known as NutraSweet, had no adverse effect on study subjects' health and well-being, a visiting scientist at MIT reported in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition last week.
"We conclude that aspartame is safe for the general population," said Paul A. Spiers, visiting scientist in the Clinical Research Center (CRC).

Penylalanine has been linked to cancer, but that's really only in GREAT (and I mean GREAT) amounts. Doubtful you'll be getting it. It's also directly linked to genetics.

I'd like to learn more about this. I wonder if 6-8 liters per day would be considered "GREAT" amounts. I sure hope not. 🙁

Yea Diet Coke is pretty much all I drink. 6-8 liters a day easy. The alternative would be beer probably, and I can't deal with those extra calories. 🙁 I'm thinking eventually I'll have to acquire a taste for water, as my body aint the same lately. 🙁

Have you tried unsweetened iced tea? I think it's a good alternative to diet soda.
