I agree, as I said earlier heat is what is starting to get to me, if I could find a way to shed heat but not into my home I would take it in a heartbeat.

Well, it does matter to me, but with all my folding rigs, my bill is $300 a month. I figure since its for science thats OK, hoping to cure caner and the like in the next 20 years.

It's pretty much at the bottom of my priority list. If power was really a problem, I would just turn off my damn computer. It doesn't need to idle all the time.

But it's not, and so I don't (turn it off). And I don't care if you improve my power efficiency. I care if you improve my CPU's ability.

My PC if it was a car would be a customized bugatti veyron.
6cores HT... 4.3ghz... 100% under water cooling on 3 independent loops.

U dont see bugatti owners crying about MPG like toyota owners..

I think the water system on my PC alone probably eats more power then IDC's overclocked entire PC system does.
6 pumps... 6 san ace high powered fans... 12 low noise fans... an assortment of controllers.... (gah)
yeah im fairly sure my system's cooling section alone draws more power then half of u guys who posted.

Power consumption is important as it allows you to compute in new form factors that you otherwise would ignore. Take my $55 2-3 Watt Rockwell android TV stick that I leave on 24/7 as it let's my kids watch netflix or youtube cartoons. This replaced a 55W shuttle box. Look at that power savings for essentially the same purpose (to play back youtube and netflix videos) it's ridiculous.

I mean, we need to get X86 down to these levels for the menial tasks such as video playback. There is little reason to need or want 800W computers any more save for speciality eyefinity type rigs (I have one) to service the latest gaming madness.

Once full electric vehicles become the norm you know the electricity companies will jack the price of electricity (everyone at the top is in cahoots) to offset the reduced usage of fossil fuels so it's smart to start reducing house hold appliances that consume such large amounts of electricity.
