Does Dell think you're stupid?

I think they do.

While looking up anything at Dell.com, it always says soemthing like "Works for Dimension 4300/4400/8100/8200 desktops" in the description, like they can make it incompatible with anything else there is, other than their machines.
AND, so many things are duplicates, but at different prices. I think they do that because there are so many stupid people these days doing ordering for the companies that they just don't know what's up, and will order the exact same, more expensive unit because, "expensive is better." I know people that use this philosophy. I just wanna walk on their face while wearing cleated Golf shoes or something.

Peace,

Maybe it is incompatible with their Dimension 466 series, and don't they want people to complain about their new 120GB drive not being recognized correctly.

Edit: They are friendly enough to tell you which of their current systems it's compatible with, there are people stupid enough to order an internal 3.5" harddisk while they have a notebook.

actually if you are a large enough customer with dell, you agree on a standard config and price before hand. So they maybe be 2 laptops and 2 desktops and 2 workstations to choose from. At least that is what they did at honeywell. And the price they get is less then what you pay on the web on dell's site. Granted they are 3 year leases.

Yeah Dell sucks. They screwed us on support. Not to mention if you try to use their website for support most of the time they point you to a FAQ that has nothing to do with what is going on. I swear it's like they don't even read the mail they just randomly link you to a document by dart board or something.

There must be. Look at all the computers they sell. We have dell computers at my school, P3 and P4's and they all SUCK. My backup computer with a KT133 with a 1ghz Duron is faster than the 1.6ghz P4 computers we have at UNCW.

If you have money to burn and want a slow outdated machine before you get it, then Dell is the way to go.

At least Compaq and HP got there heads out of there A_S's. They have a Athlon XP on a nForce board for some of there computers. I like the KT266a or KT333 VIA boards better but the nForce board is still better than anything you will get with a Intel chip under $1000.

Maybe because those that actually buy a Dell are the ones that are stupid enough to fall for their stupid-talk. ;)

I don't know what specific parts you are referring to, but there may be some parts specific to those machines.

If it's an AGP video card, those are the only machines that may have AGP ports. If it's a PCI card of sorts, other machines may come factory built using up all the PCI slots so they assume there is no room.

If it's a firewire device, only certain desktops ship with firewire.

If it has only XP support, those may be the only desktops they ship with XP.

If it's a 5.25" device, those may be the only machines that have an open bay to accept it.

upgrade from an ATI rage 16meg to a gefore2mx for only $80! Dell counts on people being stupid.

If you bought one or more of their desktop machines, they don't have to think about it. They have all the proof they need... and your money.

Many people who buy systems from major computer manufacturing companies like Dell, Gateway, HP, etc. have many non-technical people buying their systems. If you have ever worked in tech support, you would probably understand. So thats why they have to specify everything...and boy, do i mean EVERYTHING. It just gives them one less tech support call to handle

do you think that everyone out there has time enough to know everything there is to know about computers? do you know everything about particle physics or building cars or engineering a bridge or a building? no? theres plenty of smart people who don't know jack about computers, and i'm for certain that you don't know everything else those people know, so why don't you just crawl off your pedestal?

LOL, no, I didn't buy, nor will I ever buy a computer from a wholesaler. I build everything from scratch.
