does DDR work in SDR slot ??

I'm planning on buying some memory for a PIII (SE440BX based MOBO) system, but also think I will upgrade the whole machine in the not too distant future.

With the price differential being what it is today, I was thinking of getting DDR RAM - that way, I get what I need today, but will not need to throw it away when i upgrade ... Q is, does DDR RAM work in a regular old 100 MHz SDRAM slot ? meaning, will it function at least as a 100 MHz SDRAM for the moment ? or will it not work at all ???

The pins at the bottam are in a different format, SDRAM has three "notches" in the bit that goes into the socket while DDR Ram only has two (one just off centre in the middle) so it won't fit.

Plus, it's a very different technology, yes PC133 will work at 100 or 133mhz and even 66mhz if you're lucky, DDR-RAM is not backwards compatible in that way.
