Some strange variant of a photic sneeze?

I never really noticed this prior to discovering 85% (once you go black...), but it's as reliable as the sun coming up every morning.

Anyway.

Lol, I was just eating a square of Lindt's 85% (never eat more than that a day of 85% cacao) yesterday, and I did sneeze after the first bite.
I think you are right, that i may be similar to the photic sneeze reflex: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Photic_sneeze_reflex
They even mention how cold air or strong mint gum can cause sneezing (which it does occasionally for me).

I  Lindt, especially their white chocolate.

"Another theory suggests that tears leaking into the nose through the nasolacrimal duct are a cause of the photic sneeze reflex. The speed of the reflex seems to favor the first theory, as it happens much too quickly for tears to be generated and drain into the nose. In addition this sneeze reflex can be brought on by a sudden inhaling of cold air or a strong flavor such as a strong mint gum. This implies an overstimulation of any nerve close to the trigeminal nerve can cause the sneeze reflex."

My spouse has always reacted to dark chocolate by sneezing. It's gotten worse over the years, to the point where he just can't eat it at all. It contributes to migraines and makes him feel severely hung-over. He can't justify getting sick over it.
