Does CpuIdle Extreme V. 7.0. really works?

Hi all !

I have just found, over the net, one software which is (or would be) able to lower the temps of the CPU by some degrees. It is called CpuIdle Extreme, version 7.0.4.

Well, I live in Brazil, and I got used to play heavy racing games almost daily; and, now, we have summer here (35oC of average ambient temps). So, even using Zalman ALCU cooler in my PC, sometimes, after 01 hour running these games, the CPU temps reach around 65oC or even a bit more... It would be great to get lower temps when under "heavy work", and it's what this software promise...

So, just would like to hear some opinions from who have already tried it... I do not believe in miracle (related to "PC" matters), so, the logic says me that this software must manages to "steps down" the CPU, in order to get its temps a bit lower. If it is true, wouldn't it be counter productive when playing heavy games (worse FPS)?... Is it safe to install it? (It seems that this specific utilitarian is spyware free...). Does it worth to try it?

Many questions, and I need your help...

Any additional information would be very appreciated!

Thanks in advance for any hint!

Dont know about that software, but your temperatures are certainly high, even for 35C ambient temperature. Do you have a good intake and exhaust fan in your case? that would be the first thing I would fix, a good airflow that makes certain the air gets exhausted properly. Secondly, I would look into using something like the Thermaltake Silent Tower heatpipe (it's huge) with an additional 120mm fan to really push the air away from the heatsink. Three fan controllers (for intake, exhaust and cpu fans) would allow you to adjust the noise-to-airflow ratio to an optimum.

CPU "cooling" software usually works by issuing the halt command when your CPU isn't being used, but in the case that you're playing games your CPU will never get the opportunity to enter the halt state. So this software solution won't do anything for you.

Thanks for your opinions, T101 & WobbleWobble!

It seems that this soft ONLY works when the CPU is really IDLE, what is useless for me (my idle temps are fine - around 39C & 40C - even in this summer). I think that makes no sense to use this software, because the Critical Time of any system is when it is under heavy load...

Anyway, txs a lot for attention, buddies! :)

If nothing else, all modern OS's already do that(WinNT/2K/XP, Linux, etc), so those kinds of programs are useless these days.

and windows2000 and newer support that feature, a third party software is only needed for winME and earlier
