Does Costco have a decent furniture selection in-store

We never had a Costco around, but since I've moved to the Detroit area there are several and I was thinking about getting a membership.

I need to make some big furniture purchases (couch and mattress), so if Costco carries that sort of thing, it may be worth it to get a membership. I'm not sure it's worth $50/year otherwise, especially for a single guy who doesn't really need large quantities of food.

Selection vary by location and the time of the year.

Single guy? Ikea sounds more like your store.

Agreed.

Unless you live near a CostCo Home store, selection is limited.

I live in Metro Detroit and shop at the Commerce Twp. store. There is next to none for furniture selection, but they do have a small mattress selection. You're welcome to purchase anything using my membership card. I'm a single guy and can not justify having a membership. Not everything there is a good deal. I really only buy the rose boquets there to be honest, and sometimes I'll pick up fresh dinner.

Pretty much. Costco does not have a wide selection of anything. For most products they have one major brand and possibly a Kirkland (generic) equivalent.

The matresses they sell are good, and are a good price, especially if you get them while there is a coupon (once or twice a year; last time I was in Costco they had tons of mattress sets so I assume there is an active coupon now).

As for couches, they might have one (MAYBE two), usually leather.

I am not a fan of Ikea furniture personally - it's all bland and boring in my opinion. They don't seem to stock any cal-king mattresses either.

Maybe the in-store selection is better, I live pretty close to an Ikea and it wouldn't be a big deal to stop in.

I'm still debating the Costco membership. They're building one in Toledo and if I get a membership I could give my folks the spare card and they could shop at that one. They may get more use out of it than I would.

Over the years it seems that they have expanded their in store furniture selection more and more. Last week when I was there they had probably 14-16 different pieces - sofas, desks, entertainment cabinets, chairs, etc.

Not a ton but enough to have its own "row" in the center of the store.

Welcome to MI. Nice to see someone moving into the state for a change.

You will not find a large selection of just about anything at Costco. What you will find is that most of the items they offer are at pretty good deals. They have some very good food products in terms of both price and quality, but if you're not going to shop there for groceries and household necessity type items, then I would say that that the membership fee probably wouldn't be worth it.

Costco doesn't have a good selection, but they usual have decent things at good prices.

I bought my mattress at costco. Full size Sealy, Mattress + Box Frame + Frame = 465 after tax. I thought it was kinda steep but apparently it's a decent price for a full, and in all honesty this is the nicest bed I have ever owned. I have all sorts of sleep issues.. but with this bed they are mostly gone :)

We bought our Queen Sealy Posturpedic mattress and box spring from CostCo 5 years ago for $399 - $60 coupon = $339.

It's the best $339 I have ever spent.

its worth it if you buy one of their TVs (something akin to the Westinghouse 37" 1080P), some furniture, and other misc. things like bulk meat (assuming you dont have a butcher local to you).

I had a BJs membership and broke even buying bulk meat, groceries, bulk everyday needs after 4 months. While, its not really any "great savings", the ability to buy things in bulk made it into a one stop shop for me, which was pretty great, that is until my buddy lost his car.
