Does CompUSA really charge a 15% restocking fee for returning an opened item?

I returned an open network card a month or so ago and they didn't charge me and I didn't argue 😉 Now I have a $50 Bluetooth dongle that's got to go back and it's going to cost me $7.50 to return if they charge me. Do they actually do it or is a scare tactic?

I think the network card wasn't expensive therefore they didn't charge you the restocking fee. I'm sure they charge it on open printers and computers that were returned just cause.

It depends on how good looking they think you are. I've returned a few stuff before and I've never had to pay the restocking fee. 😉

yeah, the do most of the time.

Items purchased from CompUSA and returned within 14 days from the date of purchase with the original receipt or invoice are eligible for refund or exchange. No refunds or exchanges are allowed after 14 days from the date of purchase. Items must be in new condition, including the original box, packaging, manual and accessories.

An open box fee equal to 15% of the purchase price will be charged on any opened item, unless the item is defective and exchanged for the exact same item (fee not applicable in Hawaii). The 15% open box fee will be assessed at the time of refund or exchange.

Say it dosent work, then mabey they wont charge the fee.
It actually didn't work at all, though if I invested some time into it I probably could have gotten it to work right. I bought a cheaper one from Newegg with less range that does work and just want to keep that. I will try my best to work the customer service rep.

That's why I don't buy from CrapUSA anymore. What a crappy store

They have to protect themselves somehow from idiots who just buy stuff to try it.

There are other stores who are more liberal in their return policies. They're going down the hole anyway..

I actually want to try the M-audio 7.1 card.
I heard there's problem with recording, do you think I can use that as an excuse to return?

I returned a soundCard a couple years back, it was a crappy one, but it had a digital optical out, so jumped to use for my minidisc. It really sucked, and the audio out wasn;t good enough to use for the minidisc. I took it back, and when they asked my why I was, I just told them it sucked, and they didn;t charge me a restocking fee...

EDIT: The card was about $50...

Cool, I am just going to bitch about how it didn't work while the D-Link (the one from Newegg) did which is the truth.

Ha!

Me: I want to return this.
Her: You have to pay 15%
Me: It's not my fault it does not work with my phone.
Her: I have to get the manager.
Manager: <mumbles something undecipherable>
Me: It's not my fault it does not work with my phone.
Manager (to girl): Give him a full refund.

0wned!

I bought a 802.11 PCCard for a Client, turns out it didn't work (not enough range for what they needed). I brought it back expecting to get hit for 15% (which I would have billed the client for) but I was very careful to keep the packaging in perfect condition (other than outer shrinkwrap torn, you'd never know it was opened.

They didn't charge the 15%.

I think it's YMMV.

just pack it like new then... I used to when I open something, I just put it the way it was and get my friend factory wrapped it with heat gun.. it looks like new, wrapped even better than it was.. but anyway, compusa don't charge restocking fee.. at least not in san francisco

I bought a TV tuner card about a year ago and it totally sucked. I brought it back and the guy asked why I was returning it and I told him it sucked. He gave me the full amount back. The card was about $60.
