i need to change some router settings, and the normal linksys password doesnt work (blank user and admin for pwd).. i've tried a few variations that i've found..

i don't want to reset the router, so i'm wondering if comcast has a default password for the linksys routers (they wouldnt tell me on the phone)?

thanks :)

Call back and ask someone else then ask for their supervisor if they don't give you the answer. They sold you the router, if they didn't provide documentation of the password, they should give it to you. If you're just not the person with responsibility for the account, then you should ask that person to make the call.

Why do you not want to reset the configuration? If this is your first time accessing it, it should be default configuration anyway, unless Comcast sets something odd (in which case, they should provide documentation of that as well).

yeah i'm aware of this, there are a few variations.. i tried them all, and none of them worked. i figured maybe they had a password that they set on it or something

Defaults for Linksys routers are: blanks for user, admin for password. If comcast has setup a username and password, they should let you know what it is. Have you tried resetting the router to factory specs? That will let you into it. Every router we've set up for cable has been at factory specs, we haven't had to enter any settings at all...

well, i'm actually doing this for a friend online. if i were there it would be no prob, but i've never setup cable internet myself (because i dont have it), so i wasnt sure if i could safely have her reset the router or not. the reason being; if she resets it and cant get online, i cant give her help online to get it back up and running.

Once she resets it, have her open up IE, and type http://192.168.1.1 in the address bar, that will take her to the log on screen where all she has to type in is admin in the password space. This will put her into the setup screen for the linksys router. Where is she located? The comcast in the central PA area uses the default settings on the linksys routers...unlike dsl which does require some configuration.
