Does Chase offer the ability to "disable" overdraft protection?

If I try to use my card and I don't have enough money, it will be denied. Will doing this cause you to get hit with a non-sufficient funds fee or is that just for checks?

Just for checks. For cards it's just declined.

You have to call to disable overdraft protection. Did you enable it in the first place?

I don't have an account with Chase. I was thinking about moving to them.

lol @ overdraft protection. You shouldn't spend money if you are even concerned with "overdraft fees."

Just checks. No penalty for trying to withdraw/purchase something with card.

I opted out of overdraft protection with Wamu/Chase after I was dinged with some $33 overdraft fees. I wasn't sure how much I had left in my checking, but I knew I had plenty in my savings to transfer over if needed. I figured (incorrectly) that my card would just get declined if I didn't have enough and then I could just transfer over some money over the phone if needed. The people over the phone were dicks, but the guy at my local branch was pretty cool about reversing the overdraft fees for me even though he didn't have to.

I'm not sure about Chase now. When they took over WaMu they promised that we'd keep the same features. One of those features was no overdraft fees if you overdraft for less than $1. My wife had to write a check out of an account she had no money in (couldn't find her checkbook) and transferred the money to the account to cover the check. Well, she forgot 4 pennies in the transfer and was dinged an overdraft fee.

My paycheck was direct deposited this morning. Instead of showing up as being immediately available, it shows up as pending. It never did that when I had WaMu.

So much for the same features...
