does changing the polling rate make a difference for a mouse in games?

I've been using usb for a long time now so it doesn't matter much.

In the old school ps/2 days you bet it made a difference.

What's the point of 60-80fps if the screen is moving due to input from a mouse sampling at like 40samples per second?

poke around out there should be a registry parameter for the i8042prt service (keyboard/mouse driver in Windows)

hmmm, from what i heard most people can feel the difference, but i myself have never tried it since i have heard that it may damage other usb-connected devices if it cannot handle the increase in polling rate (correct if i'm wrong)

I heard that some mouse software (including that of the Logitech G5/G7) automatically raise the polling rate. Can anyone confirm this?

Yes, increasing it makes the mouse more sensitive.

i did it... its at 1000 reports/sec
LOL, I think you mean 100.

no... 1000

regular is 125

lol, holy crap dude. I wonder what i8042prt.sys is doing to your cpu! It won't show in task manager either you know!

I hope you are confusing the samples/sec that your high performance gaming mouse reads on it's position with the reports/sec that it does back to the computer.

125 is more than adequate. At 1000 you'll be updating your mouse pointer location 10 times for every time that your monitor can display it assuming a very high 100hz refresh rate.
