Does changing a showerhead help with water pressure?

So I'm about to head back home, and one of the main things I dislike most about home is how weak the pressure is. It's not so terrible that it doesn't get the job done, but after being used to the pressure in my apt it really does suck.

Is there anything I can do about it? Or does it just have to do with the infrastructure in my area?

Changing the head may increase the backpressure so the water squirts harder but the volume (important for washing those pesky arachnids down the drain! :p ) will decrease.

Short of using a booster pump and bunker setup ($$$) no you cannot increase the pressure.

Folks are confusing pressure with volume. A clogged head will decrease volume or throughput. It will create less of a pressure drop on the line so a transducer upstream of the head exit or eductor will actually read HIGHER than a free (clean) head.

Don't try to confuse me with facts.

yes, replacing the head can give you more force.

but there ain't no way you're changing the water pressure....just how that pressure is used.

Most stores like Walmart and Target sell high pressure showerheads. They are generally pretty cheap. Probably like $10-$20. And they will also save money on the water bill because when taking a shower, the pressure is more important than the volume of water used. So, really you will end up not turning the water as high.

But if the guy has no water pressure, then all he'll get is a rather feeble prostatic trickle.

If the water pressure is genuinely low (e.g. because the water comes from a tank in the roof space, rather than directly from the mains supply) then he will need either a low pressure head (which can maintain a reasonable throughput even at low pressure) or a pressure boosting pump.

In practice, if either is inadequate, then volume (throughput) is more useful than pressure (except when you want your shower to provide a stimulating massage).

If you've already got adequate water pressure, then a low volume shower head can still produce a satisfactory jet, even at low volume (and that's how these water saving heads work). Try that on a low pressure system, and you probably won't even get wet.

Dude, get this showerhead. Text OMG, it drains the hot water heater in like 5 minutes flat!

Water pressure went through the roof, just don't use the extension arm... put the head directly on the pipe like the old showerhead. You will thank me if you follow thru and get one of these.

Best $20 spent evar. :p

In that case why not unscrew the head from the standpipe and let the water pour out of a half inch nipple? ;)

Isn't that the showerhead that Kramer and Newman tried to get in Seinfeld?
