Does cellphone reception really improve with newer phones?

Does cellphone reception really improve with newer phones?

I'm thinking of going from a samsung 8500 to an A460, and I'm just wondering... Does anyone actually KNOW for sure that they're designed to have better signal?

Compare to my older cellphone I do have alot better signal with the new phone.
