Does Celeron use less power than P3??

I'm wondering for my mom's laptop. She wants to be able to use the battery as long as possible, and since she will mostly be using Word, and IE, probably won't gain much with a P3. Also, which batteries are the best? 4 cell Li-Ion, 26.6 or 59WHr Smart Lithium Ion Battery. Thanks for the help, i'm new to laptops.

For a laptop, a genuine Intel MOBILE Pentium with step-down technology unit is far better. The Celeron is a desktop processor adapted to the laptop, but it runs hotter . . . requires more fan action, and thus burns up batteries faster.

But the Mobile P-III units do cost more . . . but are also more reliable in that small, closed case environment. It really is a case of getting what you pay for.

Lithium ion batteries are preferred . . . and again, smarter ones do better at conserving their power and also are better at calibration.

If she can't afford a P-III Mobile . . . then go for a P-II mobile . . . but try and get a mobile CPU designed for the laptop environment.

Mobile Celerons do exist....they should use less power than mobile P3s as they have less L2 cache. Although they do not support SpeedStep as the P3s do, there are a number of very low voltage Celeron models (400MHz, 500MHz), that really do save power.
