I dont have cable tv, but i am prewired for it ( i have those jacks ) i want cable service for the little time i have till college (T3+)... so im signing up for roadrunner. uh.. so i do i need cable tv to get cable modem? hope not... also, if i just get a used cable modem, can they just waive the installation fee? i of course, already have a NIC.. thanks,.

Basically, the data from both cable tv and cable internet passes through the same cable. It really is up to the agreement between you and your provider. Some providers offer discounts when you subscribe to both their services.

@home has a promotion now for service with free installation and free equipment. @home does not require Cable TV service, but they want more $ if your not a cable subscriber, I think.

hmmm.. what is @home's website? im going to yahoo... i just like roadruinner, only $50 modem and no contract.. im leaving for college in 6 months.

the cable company will almost always requires that you have their most basic television package(20-30 channels)($10-15) in order to get a cable modem....

and if they don't..... you'll most likely be able to steal a few channels(20-30) more if they don't trap you line.
