Does buying these two HDD's make sense?

I am looking at a new build and could use some help on my HDD's. So far I have picked out a WD Black 1TB and a WD VelociRaptor 300GB. I plan on using the VelociRaptor as my main drive. I play games, use Photoshop for editing and Nero 9 for editing large video files. Is the Raptor the way to go? I won't be doing any RAID so that doesn't affect my decision....thanks

The raptor is the fastest spindle drive that you can get at the consumer level. To get any faster you'd have to buy a SSD, but you only get about 1/4 the space for the same price, or half the storage for more than twice the price (going off Intel's offerings). The Black 1TB is a very good choice for storage.

4 x WD 640GB "Black" drives in a RAID 5 array would offer speed and redundancy for less $$$.

Just something to think about. ;)

Great, ScorcherDarkly. That really helps me out. Then I am going to go with those 2 HDD's. It sounds like I am heading in the right direction....

Thanks, Blain, but I am going to avoid any RAID in my rig. Just not my thing.
