As title say, now that Bush is a former president, does he still get escorted by police? I know as former president he gets to keep secret service protection for 10 years, but does that mean red and blue light will also be provided to him for those 10 year?

I think it depends on the situation.

Most likely only Secret Service.

Siren? What siren, that was George in the back seat going,"WHEEEEEEEEEE, WHEEEEEEEEEE, WHEEEEEEEEEEE, WHEEEEEEEEEE!", drove the Secret Service nuts.

wtf

Only 10 years, that sounds retarded. I presume he'll have private security after that if Satan hasn't already called him back to HQ, but still.

Blame it on Clinton and who ever was running Congress in the late 1990's!

I'm thinking he'll still have his presidential pension and budget allotment for travel/postage/staffing, so I can't imagine hiring private security will be that expensive... I wonder how much $ it was costing to provide SS for all the exes that they felt the need to put a time limit on it.

If someone wanted to kill me, I'd much rather have the secret service protecting me than private security.

All of the living ex-presidents combined are probably a drop in the bucket compared to the sitting president's protection.

I agree, but remember, this is the Administration of Hope!

Running the country's economy into the ground with an illegal war? $25 Trillion
Sticking it up the ass of the American people by permitting the oil companies to gouge us all? $75 Trillion
Being brought up on charges of treason and a variety of war crimes...priceless!

Only in my wildest opium-filled nightmares will it ever happen however.

Almost makes sense though. Does Carter really need to be protected by elite government agents?

Really? Control? Where's the super-majority needed to force legislation past the Repubs?
If you folks on the right think Obama will be able to undo Bush's fuck-ups in a hurry...you're overdosing on the Limbaugh kool-aid again.

No matter how dumb the war was, repeating that it was "illegal" over and over only makes you look ignorant to the whole situation.

"Your side?" Since when are we not all Americans?

Bailing out the financial mess, Iraq, etc may easily take more than four years of government.

President Bush loses his Secret Service protection in ten years... just lettin' ya know.
Don't throw away last year's Uggs, save them for 2019. President Bush will lose his Secret Service detail in ten years. Thanks to a law passed in the 90s, any president elected after 1997 (Bush counts!) is protected at taxpayer expense for only ten years after their last term ends. It's a coincidence that the first president affected by this law is also the president with the lowest approval ratings since the United States started having presidents. How can Citizen Bush protect himself after the guys in wraparound glasses leave? We have five ideas for you, Mr. President!

Hide behind the mainstream media. If they can protect you from impeachment, they can protect you from assassination.

Travel with Dick Cheney, 24 hours a day. No one will shoot you if Cheney's in the line of fire. And just before Dick's about to die, lean over, smother him, then scream, "I'm finally free!" Appear on The View and tell the ladies about your eight years in captivity. Seriously, that's the only thing that would explain this presidency.

Pretend you are the star "W." If someone asks, "Are you President Bush," laugh and say, "I get that all the time." Then write, "Best, Josh Brolin," on their napkin.

Pretend you are your Dad. And move to (George H. W.) Bush Street, Kuwait City, Kuwait. They like you guys there!

If you are under attack, just stand there and hope their aim is bad. Technically, that's all the Secret Service does anyway.

From link above.

Y'know, for all that I didn't like the guy as a president, he certainly transitioned OUT of power with more class than Clinton.

Clinton's staff trashed the place, Bush left a good-luck note. Unless that's the conservative media bias at work.:p

It bodes well for the future. Let's hope that the legislative transitions also happen as cleanly.
