Does brand matter when buying ram?

Does brand matter when buying ram? Would I be better off paying $100 for 512mb Samsung PC2700 than paying $75 for mwave brand PC2700 with the same specs as the samsung ram? Thanks

if you dont over clock the mwave brand should do you good. I would suggest the kingston ram from google gear its only 86 shipped.

depends
if you dont want to overclock and you dont care much for timings (unless they are exactly the same) then go for the cheaper

the only reason to go for good schtuff is if you plan on overclocknig

also, another reason, is if your mobo supports running ram speed asynchronously from cpu
for amd it doesnt seem to do a whole lot better that way, but for p4's its a good idea

It used to matter but nowadays price is what matters. Even generic RAM is usually made by a reputable company like Infineon or Samsung. Some companies like PNY offer lifetime warranties but you pay alot more for that.🙂

yes.
good brands - Crucial, Kingston, PNY, Viking, Corsair, etc give lifetime warranty, they've high standard qc, they pick the best memory, or they're the actual manufacturers of the whole thing.

I like Corsair but I had a stick of 'Generic' PC2700 w/ Samsung chips that could keep up with my Corsair.

It's all luck (overclocking) with non-name brand, but guaranteed with name brand.
