I got something as a present and have the receipt, but i'm going to return it... Only problem is they purchased it with their credit card....
 
You can exchange with no problem. Probably a gift card too for the value. But you won't get cash. All they can do is return the value to the original credit card.
 
Depends if it's still brand new and what the item is.

Most likely they'll give you a BB GC to buy something else.
