Does Asus's CDspeed.exe work for the 50x CDROM?

I'm not sure if this CDspeed.exe CDROM speed setting utility works for the 50x or not?

I set my 50x down to 24x, and the spin up is as loud as ever...

Do I have to reboot or something after I set it?

Or does it just work for the 45x? I know the 45x is the newet and I read somewhere that the 45x is advertised to be speed adjustable...I never saw that on the 50x spec sheet...

Or is the 50x still as noisey at 24x as it is at 50x?

The 45x has hardware support for spindown.

The spindown tool is still a beta version. I tried it with my ASUS 40x, and I'm not too sure if it works....but then I set it all the way down to 8x. I replaced my 40x with a 45x, so I don't bother with that utility (don't ask why I changed though....😛)

The 50x spins up to at least 17x at the beginning of the CDROM, so I think for there to be an actual change in the spin up, you would need to set it down to about 12x or 10x to see a difference.
