Does Asus A7N-266VM (Rev1.05) support Duron 700 CPU?

From Asus website, it clearly states that this mobo DOES support Duron700, since my A7V is broken I bought this board to replace it, intending to use all the old components.

But the mobo I bought a few days ago has a leaflet inside saying:

Do not use processors with core spees of less tha 1Ghz on this motherboard.

So I need to buy a NEW CPU too?

(The mobo can't be returned)
 
never heard of that? i have a lot of 1.1-1.4ghz systems built around this board... and ive never seen a leaflet similar to that before.
 
Any difinitive answer?

Or better yet, buy a new CPU to go with your new motherboard! You could probably get a much faster Athlon XP 1600+ for around $50.
 
If you mean the A7N266-VM nForce 220D motherboard, then yes, it can be done.

Don't expect to do much gaming on that thing though. That's a single-channel board with integrated graphics.

i tried a 750mhz duron in this a7n266vm and it couldnt get it to post.🙁
not sure which rev this is however.

Ehhh, gaming performance is pretty good. Install an AGP video card and you're GTG. There's a mod you can do to enable FSB overclocking. Most -VMs will hit ~175MHz FSB. Get some good RAM, and you're golden. Makes one hell of an HTPC.

AthlonXP 1700+ @ 1925MHz (175MHz FSB)
512MB CAS2 DDR PC2700
3.6ns nVidia Ti4200 128MB @ 300/600
640x480 LCD Projector
DVD drive

Great for gaming and DVDs. Digital out from nForce runs to DD5.1 receiver. Someday I'll upgrade to a graphics card that can do AA and AF with better performance, but at 640x480 the 4200 handles it pretty well. It's certainly enough to run Battlefield 1942.
