Does anyone wear a night guard? I need some advice.

Saw my dentist and she notices that my teeth have been subjected to Bruxism (grinding of the teeth). She asks me whether or not I grind my teeth and I say no since I rarely clinch my teeth let alone grind them. But teeth grinding during sleep is a pretty common thing and left untreated, its costly to repair.

But I notice that I generally breath through my mouth when I sleep, which doesn't mean all the time nor does it say I DON'T grind my teeth during sleep. But you can see the logic of breathing through your mouth and grinding, just doesn't mix too well :)

Never the less, she recommends a night guard and I'm in agreement. Night guards cost $400 big ones!! for a professional fitted.
I check on the net (thank goodness for the internet) and find out information about Bruxism and such. Now there's a company called Dental Concepts that makes over-the-shelf night guards which can be seen here at their website. You can even purchase them online.. LOL.

I can barely afford the $400 big ones for the fitted professional ones since I'm in college on a loan and aide, and wanted to see if anyone had comments on the over-the-shelf night guards. Or do I absolutely need a professional, fitted night guard?

Your teeth are important since you'll probably need it as long as you live, so please take care of them :)

Why not ask your dentist the difference between the professional and over the counter variety?

Thank indeed is a good suggestion Azraele!
Man, sometimes I can't even see the obvious :)
I'll do that for sure but still want to hear personal experiences and comments to add to my arsenal.
