I've watched the show here and there, mostly on the weekends when I'm hungover. The show has devolved as most "reality" shows do. It really has become more about finding new locations to film than rescuing bars. The local place was shut down right after reopening because they didn't have proper licenses for the new business, something the show really should have both known and helped take care of.

the way he treats some of the people on the show...I am surprised he doesn't get punched out at all!

I've seen a bunch of episodes and every time I think to myself that I could probably run a bar successfully after seeing the kinds of things that Taffer does to rejuvenate the bars on the show. They always seem so common sense.

I am guilty of watching more than one of the restaurant version that is hosted by that British roid-monkey chef when it is on late at night. :$

I actually don't mind this show, as it just serves as validation I am smarter than everyone. Literally, every single restaurant he goes into not a single person knows the financial situation. "Food costs?" "Um... I'm a moron, I've no idea!" "Staff costs?" "I'm $400,00 in debt!" There people are morons. They deserve to fail. Have they never balanced their checkbook?

As far as Bar Rescue, I only watched one episode and it featured a pirate bar that the guy totally changed to a not pirate bar. Well, I was extremely disappointed, as I would totally go to a pirate bar.

This show could not possible be as fake as Mystery Diners. I mean really? One episode had a guy bring in his friend, who looked like Jaime Fox, to scam people into buying signed pictures. He also made (with his own money, I'm assuming) t-shirts to bring out a PA and sell to patrons... Really?

It's so obvious that this show is scripted it's ridiculous. Last night's episode was a perfect example. #1 they just install all of these cameras with perfect audio in the bar to do recon without anyone knowing? #2 Last night during the fight that John broke up they had cameras and audio for every worker. When the girl attacked the other girl her microphone wire was hanging out of her shirt. Finally the last part was John "dug up" bad info in a background check where there was a video of the owner hitting the bartender which was the last straw. They just happened to have HD quality video and perfect audio of the entire event.

umm ... for #1 and #2 the bars know they are being filmed and know about the cameras. they aren't being filmed by "hidden cameras" they are right there in the open and installed and everyone knows about them. same with the microphones.

and my iphone 4 that is over 3 years old has an hd camera on it. i don't know why you'd be surprised that a show that aired this past week has "home footage" in hd.

highly doubt it's scripted but it's definitely edited in a certain way to paint a very specific picture.

they approached the local gay bar asking them to be on it.

my local watering hole declined, as they're already making money hand over fist and don't have any particularly compelling staff drama.

When they are doing their recon it's supposed to be hidden cameras and none of the employees are supposed to know. Then they are "surprised" when John walks in. If it was real don't you think that the bars/people would change how they act to make themselves look better or at least clean the place up?

As for the bar owner/bartender fight does your iphone have production quality sound too? If you watched last night's episode and and the past fight between the owner and bartender the video was perfectly stable so that it was obviously a shoulder held, professional recording.

I imagine would have found some minor drama to play up.

no it's not supposed to be hidden and none of the employees know. they setup the cameras before in order to gather the recon. they just don't know the exact time john is going to walk in.

and yes i saw that episode. i'm not sure how a shaky cam video has "production quality sound" when watching from a tv. are you watching this on a 5.1 surround sound with the dts version of the show or something?

I'm saying that they are down the block arguing and you can still hear everything perfectly. If you don't think that it was staged then I have a bridge to sell you.

I watch BR, I'm sure it's got staged elements, but I still find it entertaining. I like the parts where the host reveals some "bar science".

Also watch Kitchen Nightmares and Restaurant Impossible sometimes.

Mystery Diners, though... whoa, it's like watching a middle school play. Poor acting, unrealistic situations.

One area I see the show devolving is the "bar science". I also used to watch it for that kind of interesting info, now it's all "In order to save this bar, I have to save these people" crapfests.

This show is waaay overly dramatic for my liking and I watch the US Kitchen Nightmares.

Anyways. UK Kitchen Nightmares > all. They actually focus on the food.
