I used to have Windows 2000 on my Pentium 3 and I could use it on my P4 hyperthreading instead WinXP.

I want to know if anyone is using Windows 2000 with hyperthreading, if it any different than how it is in windows xp.

Thank you.

I believe windows 2000 could make use of two physical processors, but not hyperthreading. I can't remember the reasons why atm.

Everything I've read says that Windows 2000 doesn't use HT. There was also something from either Intel or MS that said to disable HT when using Windows 2000 but I can't find it right now. Not sure if SP4 has addressed any of these issues.

It's not supported correctly in win2k. It generally results in a small decrease in performance if you turn it on, unless MS released a patch for it.

The following desktop operating systems are not recommended for use with Hyper-Threading Technology. If you are using one of the following desktop operating systems, it is advised that you should disable Hyper-Threading Technology in the system BIOS Setup program:

Microsoft Windows 2000 (all versions)
Microsoft Windows NT* 4.0
Microsoft Windows Me
Microsoft Windows 98
Microsoft Windows 98 SE
