It's an Android/IOS app that puts a lot of your favorite forums on your smartphone. It's not bad.

I can access ATOT wherever I go!

So can I. I use a new thing called a "browser". The jury's still out, but so far it works well for accessing networked assets.

Yes.

I rarely ever use the browser on any of my mobile devices. Forums have tapatalk, news feeds through feedly, etc.

I was using Google to access ATOT. It's just a lot easier using Tapatalk. Adding pics is a lot easier as well. Another positive is the app lets me know who quoted my response, and who contributed to my thread. The downside is I can't make a poll, and linking a website is not as fluid on this app.

Not a bad app to use.

I use it on mobile, not on tablets. I like the formatting on the normal forums better though. Still its faster to use Tapatalk on a mobile phone. However, the damn 'go to last read post' never ever works on that app and it always sends me to some random page.

It's proprietary spyware

It's not Spyware if I myself install it and consent to the T&C. And if what they process is not PII I really couldn't care.

Back on topic, I use Tapatalk a lot and love it. Only real drawback on a forum like this one is that people often assume you can see their signature, e.g., for system specs in a troubleshooting thread

Of course it is. Almost all spyware is installed intentionally by people agreeing to the terms. "It's only metadata" is bullshit. It was bullshit last year, and it's bullshit now.

The only thing I don't like about it is I never know where it will go to when opening a thread.
There might be a 5 page thread that I've never read. I click on it and it opens halfway down the second page.

I've used it for a long time. To me it's much better than dealing with tabs, particularly in Safari on an iPhone. iPad app is even better.

Yes, but there's a lot of things wrong with it and I wish there was an alternative. It's better than the browser, but a lot of things are broken (at least for AT)

Yeah I've been using it for years for my favorite forums. Besides forum owners needing to keep up to date tapatalk software installed they also run old versions of forum software like this site does. So some times there are issues.

I think there are two version of Tapatalk right? Free and a paid that is more up to date..

If you look at my data or battery usage on my phone, Tapa is at the top. Can't live without it.

Funny you mention it as the news ran a story about all the free "flashlight" apps for Android and Apple and how people are unknowingly (or they just are to lazy to read what permissions the app asks for) installing spyware on their phones/tablets. Until people smarten up this will continue on and on..

I have it, but I never post from my phone and using the browser on my tablet is just easier. The only advantage tapa has is built in photo uploading. Even then, it scales them down to a ridiculously low resolution.

I like browsing in Safari on my iPad. I have tabs open and browse AT, NYT, and other sites without switching back and forth.
