if I was to download an album which had a couple of 30 sec. skits, would those be counted as a whole song download?

yeah...but i was thinking it might be like itunes, where you can buy the whole cd for less than it would cost to buy each song.

i'm more of a underground hip-hop dude...but i like to check out all sorts of music. They have a pretty decent collection, bunch of stuff i was looking for.

I love emusic. But unfortunately there are no discounts when it comes to downloading a full album vs. download individual tracks, like with iTunes.

that sucks. i might still join. are the downloads roll over? if i dont use all of them, will they still work the next month?

Your monthly quota doesn't rollover. However, extra tracks beyond your monthly quota (called a 'booster pack'), will rollover.

For me, this is a good thing. emusic is set up like a gym membership or internet provider. It is a given that not everyone will download the 40 or so tracks they have each month. This allows emusic to be more price competitive for those of us who do download up to our quota.

You get a set amount of downloads per month. However, if you use up your monthly quota and want to download more songs before your next monthly refresh, you can download a booster pack. A booster pack costs a bit more per track than your quota rate, but the extra downloads stick around until you use them up. In other words, you don't lose them when the monthly refresh comes around.

If I can get on my soapbox....

The biggest complaint about emusic is that they don't offer mainstream artists. It is true: the ratio of complete crap to good music is pretty high. But if you have any sort of interest in indie, electronic, jazz, classical... there's enough interesting stuff there to keep you buying and exploring new artists for years to come. I keep telling myself that I will cancel my membership once I have downloaded all the good stuff and only the crap remains... but it's been four years strong and there's still plenty of stuff I want to download. The service has also vastly expanded my taste in music.

That said, it's a good idea to explore the site and see if you're in a 'experimenting' mood. A lot of people consider the site to be a complete rip-off and rightly so, given their tastes.

yeah i think i'm gonna subscribe to it. i think i'm gonna go with the 10 dollar 30 songs subscription. I think I have a coupon for 50 free songs somewhere.

if you like 80's rock, they have the Cult.

They rocked... and I still like most of 2 of their CD's; Love and Sonic Temple.

Besides those 2 albums, i probably downloaded 50 other random blues and reggae songs before unsubscribing.

Good quality mp3's. If you like what they got, it's a good deal.
