I have one and it will not burn a CD-R any faster than 16X independent of media type. The manual mentions CAV but how do you enable it? Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

My Brother has one. No problems, just installed the NERO that came with it and it has been running fine since.

Tried a firmware update yet? I had problems with an MSI CDRW burning coasters with some new CDR's I just bought recently. A firmware update fixed it up right away!

I have one and it wouldn't burn over 16x until I found out that I didn't have DMA enabled.

For some reason, I could not enable DMA. The playback sound and video quality of CDs began to become jerky and it would not copy to my hard drives. I replaced it with a LiteOn burner and all these performance issuse went away. The Yamaha burner is about two years old. Maybe that is its functional lifespan?

Anyone have the SCSI version? I am thinking about replacing my 8/20R with one.
