Does anyone use a gamepad that isn't an xbox 360 controller

Hi,

I'm looking for a PC gamepad. I have tried and hated the xbox 360 controller because I find it very uncomfortable. The PS3 layout of the analog sticks is much more favorable to me, but I do not wish to buy the whole console just for the controller. I used to use a logitech dual analog controller, but misplaced it and the new one I bought had inconsistent analog control, and I returned it as defective. It seemed as if it was more sensitive in one direction than the other, which made using it very frustrating. If many people have had success with the logitech controller, I might consider trying a new one. But are there any other gamepads out there that you guys use?

The new Logitech gamepads (F310, F510, F710) have the PS3 layout. They are recognized by Windows as Xbox360 controllers or as regular joysticks-- you switch between modes with a button. I think the analog triggers only work in the Xbox360 mode.

Why would you need to buy an entire PS3 just for a controller? You can get them separately. In fact, just get a PS2 controllerhttp://detonator.dynamitedata.com/c...oduct/B00004YRQ9?m=ATVPDKIKX0DER&tag=at055-20 (like this, for instance) Then get something like a Super Dual Box Pro which I use (or this which seems like an updated version by the same company) so you can use it on your PC.

You can use a PS3 controller with a mini usb to usb cable and MotionJoy. MotionJoy will make your PC recognize the PS3 controller, and it also gives you the option to have the PS3 controller emulate a 360 controller, which will make it appear and function as if it were a 360 controller on your PC. If you have bluetooth built into your PC, you can use it to sync the PS3 controller to your PC wirelessly and play that way. If you don't have one, get one from the list of compatible ones here. Just make sure you turn off the controller before you plug it in to charge it or you'll have issues syncing it next time.

I use the XBOX 360 wired controller and for games which don't support it, XPadder. Only problem with it is creating profiles for games.

Before I used my 360 controller I used a PS2-> USB converter and it worked real well.

As stated about get this the logitech f710 wireless version or f510 cord version. Works in directinput mode or xinput mode and can act like a xbox360 controller in the former mode. Sturdy and solid design with lots of features. IMHO you can't go wrong with this controller unless you have really small fairy like hands or huge Sasquatch paw hands.

logitech cordless rumblepad 2, has been flawless for years. if i were getting a new one, i'd look at the f710

Nice, thanks for that link. Whenever I look for drivers for the ps3 controllers, I usually get that driver from 2009, and it never works. This one worked for USB, and although it recognizes my bluetooth device and updates the mac address, it doesn't work after I click "pair". Oh well, even to have it run on USB is great.

This is what I use when I play Freespace 2. I don't play that game often though.

I use ps2 controller with an adapter I bought in korea. Has 2 ports for multiplayer games even.

Downside is I need to use joy to key to map it... I'll look into the ps3 controllers that others have mentioned already.
